Since the launch of S501, we have received many constructive reviews, some frank and direct, some gentle and friendly, but no matter what kind of customer review it is, we collect them and discuss them internally. Because we believe that customer reviews are often helpful, they are written with the intention of making us better.
Unlike the previous article, this [Real Review] was a serious warning, a customer review from the US gave us a wake-up call, he pointed out a security warning in our software, which had gone unnoticed in our internal testing, and after receiving the review, Likcut's product development department quickly found the problem, and through submitting security certificates and improving security information, the security vulnerability was successfully patched. The security vulnerability was patched. We have also explained the issue in the changelog.
We're sorry for the unpleasant experience we've brought to our customers, but we won't run away from the problem, so this Real Review will be one of the driving forces for us to continue to optimize our products.
Also: Due to a non-compete agreement, we do not support Ink cut to run S501 for the time being.
<VIRUS DETECTED - RECOMMEND PROCEEDING WITH CAUTION>
I was attempting to use this via the USB - connected to a Windows PC route. I navigated to the Likcut website where the app is available for download, and started having problems right away. First, Windows didn't like the file and reported it as "something not commonly downloaded". When I had to manually elect to "Keep the file" and ran it through my security software, it flagged a virus and quarantined the file pretty much immediately.
I recommend avoiding their software until such time as this little "hiccup" can be properly addressed.
I even went above and beyond with this little vinyl cutter, trying desperately to get it working with InkCut, which is an open source program for vinyl cutters and similar machines. InkCut works fine on my machine, however as their proprietary software apparently also contains the Windows driver for the machine, I can't even get InkCut (or windows) to see this as anything other than a "USB Device" and none of the jobs I've tried sending to it have printed.
My suggestion for Likcut would be to release an actual Windows driver package for this cutter so it can be used with other software such as InkCut. And get rid of whatever malware is in your software.
I really had high hopes for this little vinyl cutter. As I have a few 3-D printers, a CNC machine, and a laser cutter, this really was a natural extension for me and something I really wanted to try. I'm saddened by the fact the software flagged both in Windows as well as my antivirus software.
As this currently doesn't work with InkCut 3rd party software, and the Likcut software appears to be infected with malware, I can't in good conscience recommend this machine.
If you have already purchased this machine and are using it, I HIGHLY recommend using caution or ditching it altogether. Security problems are something none of us need.
I am open to revising this review, but I will require that the software be submitted to at least 1 leading security software company for evaluation first, with MY approval pending THEIR approval. I take security seriously. I'm sure Likcut does too, so I recommend they address this issue quickly and effectively.
